The Welsh Marches, Summer

Evening light over fields in the Welsh Marches, on the England-Wales border.

The Welsh Marches region defines the border area between England and Wales, including the counties of Powys, Shropshire and Hereforshire. A landscape characterised by rolling agricultural fields and remote hills, the region's historical features also describe the area as a site of tension between the English and Welsh territories. Alongside dozens of prehistoric, Roman and Anglo Saxon features, a large number of medieval castles and villages are found amongst the Welsh Marches' ancient field systems.
