South Shropshire, Winter

A winter view towards the hills of South Shropshire from the Stiperstones Ridge.

The English county of Shropshire contains some of Britain's most picturesque countryside, with several distinct upland landscapes overlooking its wider terrain. The Stiperstones ridge is a five-mile-long series of quartzite tors, believed to have been formed during the last Ice Age. Along its entire length, the ridge offers panoramic views over the Welsh Marches and the mountains of Mid Wales and southern Snowdonia. Below the upland areas of Shropshire, the county's landscape is characterised by unspoilt countryside and some of Britain's most picturesque villages.
