England, Late Summer

Morning mist over upland countryside in West England, pictured during late summer.

The region where the borders of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Powys meet is one of England's most remote landscapes. Its large open fields have been farmed for centuries, leaving ancient hedgerows that create a patchwork over gently undulating hills. The area is characterised by small settlements, ancient churches and castles linked by quiet roads and footpaths. During late summer, mist forms in the region's valleys as cooler air passes over its landscape.
