Borrowdale valley within the English Lake District, pictured during spring.
Situated in the county of Cumbria and the Lake District National Park, Borrowdale is one of England's most attractive valleys. Overlooked by some of Britain's highest mountains, Borrowdale is characterised by rolling pastureland surrounded by ancient stone walls, quiet tracks and picturesque settlements. From its sources above the valley, the River Derwent flows through Borrowdale towards the lake of Derwent Water. The valley's population has remained little changed for hundreds of years, with many of its features unaltered since early human settlement.
